1 The Magician I

Meaning: Manifestation, creation, transmutation, resourcefulness, the four elements, alchemy, science, charm, trickery, manipulation, control

The Magician (I) is about creating the environment necessary for the manifestation of one’s desires. Practically speaking, “a magician” is the person who is, who can or who needs to create changes in either the mental, emotional, spiritual or physical realms in order to bring about auspicious outcomes. It conveys the message of having the ability to change something for the better–The Magician is empowering. It shows us that we have more than enough resources to do or get where we want.

For example, say you want to leave your current work to find a better opportunity. The Magician reminds you that the attainment of your wish is within reach. If you want it enough, you can and will bring about the circumstances for its fruition.

“Everything is within your power, and your power is within you.” -Janice Trachtman

“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.” Thomas Jefferson

Light vs. Shadow

The light aspect of The Magician reminds us of our creative power and our connection to the Divine. It reminds us that our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs create our reality. There is endless potential with the magician. Something wonderful is bound to happen with all the intention and focus you’re putting into your goals!

ex: The Magician + The Sun = Healthy, harmonious manifestations that have a positive, beautiful outcome or stand-out person represented by The Magician having good intentions, assuaging doubt.

Its shadow aspect is when we use our power to harm others through deception, trickery, or manipulation. Again, it always depends on the surrounding cards and/or your intuition whenever any card comes up. Sometimes The Magician can represent a person who uses their charm to get what they want by sweet-talking you or whispering sweet nothings in your ear to make you behave in a way that pleases or benefits them. But again, this all depends on the artistic depiction of the particular card and what you are picking up on. These are the “narcissists, players, heart breakers, cheaters, womanizers, gold-diggers, snake oil salesmen”… so on.

ex: The Magician + The Devil = red flags going up with someone, potential dishonesty in a relationship or unhealthy or destructive manifestations. Using one’s creative powers for harm. Reminds us to re-evaluate our desires to determine whether we are coming from a place of obsession, desperation, or selfish control.

For new users and beginners:

The LOMY magician card might not evoke those particular feelings in you when it comes up in a reading based on what you see, but if you know in your mind what The Magician means or can mean, you could choose to read it based on its “official” Ryder Waite definiton of the card. Some readers and creators however, will depict cards showing its other distinctions and underlying interpretations in their own unique, visual art form and style (reading styles can differ as well.) No matter what, they always relate to what the original card / archetype is at its core.

If you have chosen The Lovers Mythology Deck as your first deck, looking into the original meanings of the 22 “Major Arcana” cards in the tarot as well as the meanings of the 36 “Lenormand” cards, represented in this hybrid deck, might help. I’ll list some of my favorite Tarot and Lenormand guidebooks here. I also recommend you look into the history of these cards. But if you choose not to, this e-guidebook will certainly provide you with a foundation for reading the included cards from both systems (22 Major Arcanas and 36 Lenormand) in the LOMY deck properly.
